Russian Roulette is the first book in the Helena Hawthorn series. Honestly, I was a little worried when I read the book description. For some reason, I wasn’t sure that an angel, vampire and a human that knows a little too much about the supernatural world would be a good mix. Nevertheless, I am glad to admit I was wrong here. The start of the book doesn’t give that many explanations. I must admit I got very confused as to why did a 19-year-old had and could talk to her personal guardian angel. Helena, our heroine, is quite likable most of the times. Sometimes I couldn’t help but be annoyed by her attitude towards the vampires and pretty much any supernatural besides her angel. Then again, it is quite understandable. Now, our vampires. Licious has this charm that you can’t help but love even when he is pushing you too hard. I enjoy heroes like that. His best friend, Alexander, is more like a playboy. I really wanted to scold him for seeing women as objects, but I admire his loyalty to Lucious.
I loved the instant connection between Lucious and Helena. However, I was worried that some things that the book dealt with would be cliches. Using the heroine as a bargaining chip is a huge no for me. The again, I couldn’t come to hate Lucious at all. I do believe the plot turned out quite well and I enjoyed the mystery it held towards the very end.

In this book, I kind of got mad at Andrew. There were times when I wanted to slap him because of how cruel he could be to Helena. He should have his friend’s back and that includes playing nice with the girl! Another character that broke my heart is Michael. I won’t tell how but as you read this book, you will feel the pain Helena felt because of him.
This book was filled with mystery, anger, fear and so many dark and strong emotions that crushed my heart little by little but it was so intense that I couldn’t let go and I am so glad I didn’t.

My favorite part of the book is the reappearance of old friends. Yes, the angel guy is pulling my heartstrings again and he will do the same with yours, in a good way. The presence of Andrew and the physical distance between our hero and heroine is a huge tension point in the novel. Truth be told, it was interesting and agonizing at the same time. I could totally feel their frustration. The cruelty of the villain is something amazing too! She manages to sound so mean and crazy but make sense in her own twisted way of thinking. Honestly, that is quite an accomplishment! The plot was full of drama, action, romance, and heart crushing moments. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
