Steph’s 4 Star Review

Russian Roulette is the first book in the Helena Hawthorn series. Honestly, I was a little worried when I read the book description. For some reason, I wasn’t sure that an angel, vampire and a human that knows a little too much about the supernatural world would be a good mix. Nevertheless, I am glad to admit I was wrong here. The start of the book doesn’t give that many explanations. I must admit I got very confused as to why did a 19-year-old had and could talk to her personal guardian angel. Helena, our heroine, is quite likable most of the times. Sometimes I couldn’t help but be annoyed by her attitude towards the vampires and pretty much any supernatural besides her angel. Then again, it is quite understandable. Now, our vampires. Licious has this charm that you can’t help but love even when he is pushing you too hard. I enjoy heroes like that. His best friend, Alexander, is more like a playboy. I really wanted to scold him for seeing women as objects, but I admire his loyalty to Lucious.

I loved the instant connection between Lucious and Helena. However, I was worried that some things that the book dealt with would be cliches. Using the heroine as a bargaining chip is a huge no for me. The again, I couldn’t come to hate Lucious at all. I do believe the plot turned out quite well and I enjoyed the mystery it held towards the very end.

Demon Gates
Helena Hawthorn Series Book 2

nightmares while her mental battle continues with a demon called
‘Lazarus’. Without her guardian angel to protect her, she is left to
rely on vampires who have their own reasons for everything.

The attraction between her and Lucious grows, whether it is a side effect
of the soul-bond they share or of their own volition. Yet, how can
they be certain?
With the help of her new friends, they must seek out a Demon Gate and
enter the Demon Realm to stop Lazarus from claiming her and Lucious’
souls. But, will they succeed or perish as the only weapon that can
kill a demon has been lost centuries ago.

 Steph’s 4 Star Review

Demon Gates is the second book in the Helena Hawthorn series. It follows the life of Helena as she tries to stay alive while dealing with a crazy demon, a bond with a handsome vampire, strange and warm feelings for said vampire, the anger and sarcasm of the vamp’s best friend, and so much more. Honestly, I don’t even know how she can stand all the drama that constantly knocks are her door. I would have probably shouted my lungs out if I had to face half of what she did. It kind of makes me admire her, though I wish she didn’t give Lucious such a hard time. Then again, I have always been a softie when it comes to alpha heroes with a protective side.
In this book, I kind of got mad at Andrew. There were times when I wanted to slap him because of how cruel he could be to Helena. He should have his friend’s back and that includes playing nice with the girl! Another character that broke my heart is Michael. I won’t tell how but as you read this book, you will feel the pain Helena felt because of him.
This book was filled with mystery, anger, fear and so many dark and strong emotions that crushed my heart little by little but it was so intense that I couldn’t let go and I am so glad I didn’t.

Crumbling Control
Helena Hawthorn Series Book 3

After attending a funeral in Aberdeen, Helena meets with a member of the
European Vampire Council. Vincent shares his concerns about the
imminent dangers local vampires are facing. After all, the hunters
are gathering in London, local packs of werewolves fight for
territory, and Eliza is up to something that will ‘save them all’.

Lucious is staying away from Helena. The hunters shot him full of tracking
bullets and every time he stops, they catch up to him. To prevent
those he cares about from being in danger, he ends up calling in a
favour from the man he never wished to see again.
Helena’s feelings for Lucious begin to waver as she cannot get in contact with
him. Andrew remains by her side and makes her laugh when everything
else is going to hell.
How will Helena and Lucious overcome their new trials once the hunters
come knocking on their door, demons escape through the Demon Gate,
and the Council begins to crumble?

Steph’s 4 Star Review

Crumbling Control is the third book in the Helena Hawthorn series. It continues the dark and complex relationship of Helena and Lucious as they try to stay alive when mean supernaturals keep coming at them. Honestly, someone needs to give the poor heroine a break! I truly admire her will to keep going after all the drama she has to face on an everyday basis. On the other hand, I love the way Lucious has changed. He becomes more protective of Helena to the point that he will even stay away from her if that means she will be safe. We saw that protective streak in book 2 but it is much more highlighted in this one.
My favorite part of the book is the reappearance of old friends. Yes, the angel guy is pulling my heartstrings again and he will do the same with yours, in a good way. The presence of Andrew and the physical distance between our hero and heroine is a huge tension point in the novel. Truth be told, it was interesting and agonizing at the same time. I could totally feel their frustration. The cruelty of the villain is something amazing too! She manages to sound so mean and crazy but make sense in her own twisted way of thinking. Honestly, that is quite an accomplishment! The plot was full of drama, action, romance, and heart crushing moments. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
